It was around 13 hours and 14 minutes on September 19, 2017, a date that will live in the minds of many in Mexico. That day thousands of people were affected by the earthquake that had its epicenter in the municipality of Axochiapan, Morelos; located on the border with the state of Puebla. Mrs. Bety, who is dedicated to agriculture in Atlixco, Puebla , lost her garden and her home due to this unfortunate event. This town is vulnerable, since it is very close to the Popocatépetl volcano and the inhabitants of the region live in fear and uncertainty due to volcanic activity, however from the day of the earthquake to date they have managed to continue their activities to move forward. Strategic alliances in favor of vulnerable communities: Cinépolis Case Two years after these events, Mrs. Bety now has a decent home for herself and her two children, thanks to the support of Mexican organizations and companies that are truly committed to exercising their social responsibility, such as the Cinépolis Foundation.
September 2017, Fundación Cinépolis joined forces with the Fideicomiso Fuerza México (FFM), to assist in the reconstruction of homes in areas affected by the last earthquake. Grupo Mia was the social company that supported the design and construction of the houses, taking into account the volcanic zone of the construction. These are the characteristics of the houses: They have a construction area of 60m2, with three bedrooms, a common area, kitchen and a bathroom. They have eco-technologies ; energy-saving light bulbs, ecological shower and an ecological grade ceramic toilet. The foundations of these houses can support a second story, as long as the owners want to build it.
The houses have insurance against damage due to natural disasters for three years. The insurance covers; fires, earthquakes, volcanic eruption, floods and hurricanes. I think that today more than ever it is important to demonstrate that collaboration is the ideal path to achieve the changes we want to see in Mexico,” said Lorena Guillé Laris, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility at Cinépolis and Fundación Cinépolis. The donation at the Cinépolis box office consisted of each peso donated by customers, Cinépolis added 3 pesos, thanks to this the company managed to raise nearly 17 million pesos for the reconstruction of the project in the states already mentioned.
